PFRDA Committee Drafts Assured Payout Guidelines for NPS
The Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) has set up a committee to create rules for a new feature in the National Pension System (NPS).
This feature will guarantee a certain amount of money for retirees, which is important because sometimes the amount people get after retirement can be unpredictable.
The committee will decide things like how long people have to keep their money in the system and how much they can take out.
There are three types of payout plans being considered: flexible, assured, and predictable.
The assured payout plan will give a fixed amount of money each month, adjusted for inflation.
This is similar to other pension schemes like the Atal Pension Yojana (APY) and the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) for government employees.
However, guaranteed payouts might come with some costs, like lower returns and longer lock-in periods.
The PFRDA is also reducing the mandatory annuity requirement from 40% to 20% for non-government employees, giving them more flexibility in managing their retirement funds.
PFRDA has set up a committee to draft guidelines for assured payout options under the NPS for non-government subscribers.
The committee will review mechanisms for a smooth transition from the accumulation phase to the payout phase and create regulations for assured pension payouts.
Three payout schemes are proposed: flexible, assured, and predictable pension schemes.
Assured payouts will offer greater predictability to non-government NPS subscribers, similar to the Atal Pension Yojana (APY) and Unified Pension Scheme (UPS).
The mandatory annuity requirement for non-government employees has been reduced from 40% to 20%, providing more flexibility in managing retirement funds.
