Gujarat to Plant Trees Along Riverbanks
The Gujarat government has decided to plant trees along the banks of 185 rivers in the state.
This is to make the area greener and help the rivers.
The Forest Department will be in charge of this project.
They will find the best places to plant trees and make sure no one uses that land for other things.
The goal is to have more trees and plants to help the environment.
Right now, only about 11% of Gujarat is covered with trees and forests, but they want to increase this number.
They also want to protect the rivers from problems like erosion and invasive plants.
This project will help the soil, water, and animals that live near the rivers.
Gujarat government approves planting trees along 185 riverbanks under the Riverine Landscape Management Plan.
Department of Forest and Environment designated as the nodal agency for the initiative.
Current forest and tree cover in Gujarat is 11.03% of the geographical area, below the national target of 33%.
The project aims to address issues like erosion, siltation, and loss of native flora in riverine ecosystems.
The initiative will involve GIS mapping, land demarcation, and inter-departmental coordination for holistic riverine landscape management.
