Bengaluru Chain-Snatching Cases Renew Focus on Street Crime

Bengaluru Chain-Snatching Cases Renew Focus on Street Crime

Several people in Bengaluru recently had their gold chains stolen.

The incidents happened on roads, in busy markets and near railway stations.

Women were the main targets.

Police arrested several suspects, including minors and people accused of earlier crimes.

One suspect allegedly stole chains near train doors and escaped along railway tracks.

Another case happened in a crowded market during festival shopping.

Police say the cases were solved and do not show that chain-snatching has suddenly increased.

Official figures show Karnataka had fewer cases from January to July 2026 than in the same period in 2025.

The recent incidents received attention partly because some CCTV footage spread widely.
