Dev Deepawali 2025: Date, Rituals, and Significance in Varanasi

Dev Deepawali is a special festival celebrated in India, especially in the city of Varanasi.

It happens on a full moon night in November.

It's called the 'Festival of Lights for the Gods' because people believe gods come down to Earth to celebrate with us.

The main tradition is lighting thousands of oil lamps, called diyas, along the river Ganga.

These lights represent good winning over bad.

A famous legend tells of Lord Shiva defeating a powerful demon.

To celebrate, the gods came to Earth and bathed in the Ganga.

So, people light lamps to welcome the gods and honor this victory.

In Varanasi, the riverbanks and city glow with these lights, making it a very beautiful and spiritual sight.

People also take a holy bath in the river and perform a special lamp ceremony called Ganga Aarti.
