Prohibitory Orders Imposed in Odisha Over Underpass Demand
In Odisha, people are protesting because they want an underpass built near a busy road called the Paradip-Daitary Expressway.
The road is being widened, and many people live close to it.
They blocked the road for a few hours and even marched to a police station when one protestor was taken away.
The government then said no more than four people can gather together in that area.
Later, the government promised to build the underpass, and things calmed down.
Locals in Odisha's Kendrapara district protested and blocked the Paradip-Daitary Expressway for five hours demanding an underpass near Silipur junction.
Prohibitory orders were imposed under section 163 of the BNSS around the Marshaghai police station, banning assemblies of four or more persons.
Police detained one protestor, leading to a march by hundreds of people, including women and college students, to the police station.
The situation was brought under control after reinforcements arrived, and the administration assured the construction of the underpass.
The expressway connects mineral-rich areas in Keonjhar and Jajpur districts with the Paradip port and is currently being widened from four to eight lanes.
