Suspect killed in Amritsar encounter over ASI killing case
Police in Amritsar said they stopped a scooter carrying two men late at night.
The men were allegedly connected to the killing of Assistant Sub-Inspector Harjeet Singh.
Police said the riders ran away when officers signaled them to stop.
Officers alleged that the men fired four shots at the police team.
Police said two bullets hit their vehicle and one hit an officer’s bulletproof jacket.
They said officers then fired six shots to protect themselves.
Deepak Singh was hit and died on the way to the hospital.
The other person with him escaped.
Punjab Police said an accused in ASI Harjeet Singh’s killing was killed during a late-night encounter in Amritsar.
Police identified the suspect as 20-year-old Deepak Singh from Mule Chak village.
Officers said Deepak and an accomplice fled a checkpoint on Thande Road after being signaled to stop.
Police alleged the suspects fired four rounds, hitting the police vehicle twice and a Counter Intelligence officer’s bulletproof jacket once.
