Srisailam Dam Faces Severe Structural Damage
The Srisailam Dam on the Krishna River is in serious trouble.
A recent study found that the area right below the dam, called the plunge pool, has gotten much deeper and wider.
The dam has a protective layer called an apron, but it has a big hole under it.
There are also big steel cylinders meant to protect the dam, but many of them are damaged.
Experts say the dam needs urgent attention to prevent any accidents.
The study was done by a company called Sea Lion Offshore Diving Pvt.
Ltd for the Andhra Pradesh government.
The report shows that the damage is worse than before, and the dam's foundations might be at risk.
A recent study found severe damage and erosion in the plunge pool area of the Srisailam Dam.
The protective apron has a 4-meter deep hole extending 14-15 meters towards the dam.
The void in the plunge pool has deepened from 35 meters to 45 meters.
62 concrete-filled steel cylinders installed to protect the apron were found damaged.
The National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) has highlighted the urgent need for attention to the dam's structural integrity.
