Parliament Again Addresses India's Pollution Control Board Staffing Issues
India's Pollution Control Boards are having trouble hiring enough people.
This issue was brought up again in the Lok Sabha (India's Parliament).
Many positions are empty in these boards across the country.
A minister explained that there are many problems with hiring, like delays in approving rules and setting up staffing plans.
Also, some people who get hired aren't showing up for work.
The Supreme Court has told these boards to fill all the open jobs soon because these boards are responsible for making sure environmental laws are followed and controlling pollution.
Understaffing in State Pollution Control Boards was raised again in the Lok Sabha.
Over 50% of posts are vacant in pollution control boards across states and union territories.
Minister attributed vacancies to recruitment bottlenecks, including rule approvals and staffing patterns.
Many new recruits are not joining due to various reasons.
The Supreme Court directed State Boards to fill all vacancies by the end of September.
