Supreme Court Summons Arunachal Officials Over CBI Probe Non‑Cooperation
The Supreme Court of India asked two top officials from Arunachal Pradesh to come to court on August 24.
They were asked because the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) said the state was not giving them the records it needed.
The CBI is looking into whether the chief minister’s family got special contracts for public works.
A group of NGOs asked the court to investigate this.
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said the government is not cooperating and that the prime minister’s promise to be honest is fake.
The court wants the state to fully help the CBI and keep all records safe.
Supreme Court ordered Arunachal Pradesh chief secretary and home secretary to appear on Aug 24 after CBI alleged state non‑cooperation in probe of CM Pema Khandu’s family contracts.
CBI’s status report said the state failed to provide requested records for preliminary enquiry into preferential public works contracts from 2015‑2025.
The probe was triggered by a PIL from NGOs Save Mon Region Federation and Voluntary Arunachal Sena, alleging contracts awarded to firms linked to Khandu’s kin.
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh criticized the government, calling the PM’s commitment to accountability “bogus” and noting the Supreme Court’s April 6, 2026 order for a CBI investigation.
The Supreme Court directed the state to fully cooperate, appoint a nodal officer, and ensure no records were destroyed.
