JUP Founder Names Ex-Policeman as Ballygunge Candidate
Humayun Kabir, the founder of the Janata Unnayan Party (JUP), has chosen Abul Hasan, a retired police officer, as the party's candidate for the Ballygunge constituency in the upcoming West Bengal Assembly polls.
This decision comes less than 24 hours after Kabir dropped Nisha Chatterjee from the same position.
Kabir explained that Chatterjee's social media presence did not match the party's image.
Hasan, who is Kabir's maternal uncle, has been a police officer in West Bengal and is now retired.
Chatterjee expressed her disappointment, feeling that she was rejected due to her Hindu background and that her personal freedoms were being censored.
Kabir also mentioned that his party is open to alliances with anti-Trinamool Congress and anti-BJP forces and aims to achieve greater minority unity.
