SC Refuses Plea on UMEED Portal Glitches
The Supreme Court of India recently refused to hear a complaint from a man named Hashmat Ali.
He was having trouble with a government website called UMEED, which is used to register properties that belong to waqf (a type of religious endowment).
The court said that the problems he was facing were more about how the website works and not about any big legal issues.
They told him to talk to the people in charge of the website or go to a lower court instead.
The website is supposed to have all the details of waqf properties in India, and everyone has to put their information on it within six months.
The court also said that even if the website doesn't have a specific category for 'Waqf by Survey', people can still put their information under 'Waqf by User' and it will be okay.
The Supreme Court dismissed a plea by Hashmat Ali regarding technical and structural deficiencies in the UMEED portal.
The court advised Ali to approach the appropriate authorities or high court for redressal.
The UMEED portal is mandatory for uploading details of waqf properties across India within six months.
The court noted that 'Waqf by Survey' is subsumed under 'Waqf by User' and advised uploading data under the latter category.
The petitioner argued that the portal's classification could lead to more litigation and encroachments.
