Delhi Mayor Demands Closure of Meat Shops During Kanwar Yatra
The Kanwar Yatra is a big pilgrimage where many people travel in Delhi to offer water to Lord Shiva.
The mayor of Delhi, Pravesh Wahi, asked the city to shut down all meat shops that are open at night near the pilgrimage routes.
He said these shops could upset the pilgrims and wanted them closed.
The city already told its zones to close unauthorized meat shops.
There will be 308 camps for pilgrims from July 30 to August 11.
The mayor wants the city to act quickly so the pilgrims can travel safely.
Delhi Mayor Pravesh Wahi wrote to the MCD commissioner to shut all meat shops along Kanwar Yatra routes.
The request targets raw and cooked meat vendors operating at night near pilgrim camps during Sawan and Mahashivratri.
MCD had already directed 12 zones to close unauthorized meat shops and enforce permit conditions.
308 Kanwar camps are scheduled across Delhi from July 30 to August 11.
The mayor cited illegal operation of meat stalls as distressing to devotees and requested immediate closure.
