MP Tewari raises concerns over SCL Mohali delays
MP Manish Tewari spoke in the Lok Sabha about the Semi-Conductor Laboratory (SCL) in Mohali, which is very old and not as good as other places around the world.
He said it has not been updated properly and a lot of money has been spent without much improvement.
He wants a detailed check to see how the money was used and to make sure the lab becomes better.
The lab was started in 1976 to make computer chips in India.
It had a big fire in 1989 and has been struggling since then.
Now, the government is trying to upgrade it with a lot of money to make it better and more competitive.
MP Manish Tewari raised concerns in Lok Sabha about the delays in modernising SCL Mohali, citing technological obsolescence and financial mismanagement.
SCL Mohali, India's first semiconductor fabrication facility, operates with outdated technology and limited production capacity.
No comprehensive audit has been disclosed on the losses from a 1989 fire or the subsequent decline in technological capability.
Substantial public funds allocated for repair and modernisation appear under-utilised or inadequately monitored.
SCL is being upgraded under the Rs 76,000-crore India Semiconductor Mission, with Rs 4,500 crore allocated for its modernisation.
