U.S. Strikes Iran as Regional Hostilities Flare Again

U.S. Strikes Iran as Regional Hostilities Flare Again

The United States and Iran have started fighting again after a month without military action.

The United States says Iran tried to attack ships and American troops.

It also says earlier strikes targeted rocket launchers that could place mines in an important shipping route.

Iran fired missiles toward a U.S. site in Jordan and reported drone attacks in the region.

Jordan said it stopped most of the missiles, and Kuwait reported intercepting drones.

Iranian officials said one U.S. strike hit a home hosting a wedding and killed five people.

The U.S. military said it never targets civilians and noted that the casualty reports came from Iranian state media.

Both countries are also contesting control of the Strait of Hormuz, where about 20% of the world’s oil normally travels.

The renewed fighting has pushed oil and gasoline prices higher and created political concerns for Republicans.
