India and Russia Ink Deal for SJ-100 Aircraft Production in India
India and Russia are teaming up to build airplanes together in India!
This airplane is called the SJ-100 and it's for short trips around India.
It's really special because it's the first time India will make a whole passenger plane by itself.
This project is a big step for India to become more independent in making its own airplanes, which is called 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat'.
It will also help connect cities better through a program called UDAN and create many new jobs.
Many people expect India will need a lot of these planes in the next ten years to help people travel and for tourists flying to nearby places.
India's HAL has signed an MoU with Russia's PJSC-UAC to jointly manufacture SJ-100 passenger aircraft in India.
This marks the first instance of India manufacturing a complete passenger aircraft domestically.
The agreement, signed in Moscow, occurs amidst geopolitical tensions involving US sanctions on Russian entities and India's ties with Russia.
The SJ-100 is intended to enhance short-haul connectivity in India under the UDAN scheme and supports the 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' initiative.
An estimated demand for over 200 SJ-100 class jets for regional connectivity and 350 more for nearby international destinations is projected over the next decade.
