MP High Court Takes Suo Motu Action on 488 Trees Felled Without Nod
Imagine a park where many trees were cut down.
A special court, the High Court, heard about this from a news story.
The story said that a government department, called PWD, cut down 488 trees near a city without asking the right people.
Usually, you need permission from special groups like the environmental court (NGT) and others before cutting trees.
The High Court was very surprised because they had already said no to cutting trees, and this department still did it.
So, the court said, 'We need to look into this!'
They told the government and the PWD to explain why they did it and to show proof of permission.
The court also said that no more trees can be cut until they figure this out.
The Madhya Pradesh High Court has initiated a suo motu case regarding the felling of 488 trees.
The trees were reportedly cut by the Public Works Department (PWD) near Bhopal.
Mandatory permissions from the National Green Tribunal (NGT), a state committee, and a tree officer were allegedly not obtained.
The High Court has issued notices to the state government and PWD and appointed an amicus curiae.
The court has ordered that no further trees be felled or pruned without valid permission until the next hearing.
