J&K Bans VPNs, Raids in Cyber Terror Case
The government in Jammu and Kashmir has banned VPNs for two months to keep people safe and stop bad people from using the internet to do bad things.
At the same time, the police conducted raids at 22 places and arrested 22 suspects who were involved in cyber fraud and terror financing.
The police say this is a big step to stop organized cybercrime and its links to terror financing.
Some people are worried that the VPN ban might make it hard for regular people to use the internet for good things.
The government says they will check if the ban is needed and might stop it early if things get better.
Jammu and Kashmir authorities banned VPNs for two months due to security concerns and to prevent terrorists from using VPNs to communicate with handlers in Pakistan.
The Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) conducted simultaneous searches at 22 locations across the valley, detaining 22 suspects involved in cyber fraud and terror financing.
The raids aimed to dismantle the financial infrastructure of cyber frauds and terror networks, exposing a syndicate operating across the valley.
The CIK intensified its crackdown on a criminal network using mule bank accounts to launder money from cyber frauds, illegal online gaming, betting rackets, and other unlawful activities.
Political parties have raised concerns about the impact of the VPN ban on privacy and legitimate VPN use.
