CAG flags ₹12.86 cr loss in WBIDC's land deal with Flipkart
The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) found that the West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation Limited (WBIDCL) lost ₹12.86 crore when they sold land to Flipkart's logistics arm, Instakart Services.
The loss happened because WBIDCL didn't correctly calculate the price of the land.
They didn't account for large water areas that couldn't be used for building.
The CAG said the price should have been higher because of this.
The state government said they approved the price after discussions, but the CAG didn't agree and said the loss was because they didn't follow their own rules.
The land is part of a big industrial park where Flipkart has a large storage facility.
WBIDCL suffered a loss of ₹12.86 crore due to incorrect base price calculation for land allotted to Flipkart's logistics arm Instakart Services.
The loss occurred because WBIDCL did not account for 55.89 acres of water bodies within the Haringhata Industrial Park when calculating the land price.
The actual allocable land was 302.299 acres, not the full 358.19 acres on which WBIDCL had calculated its per-acre price.
The base price should have been ₹75.23 lakh per acre, but WBIDCL charged ₹63.49 lakh per acre, resulting in a shortfall of ₹12.86 crore.
The state government defended the base price, stating it was approved by the agency's board and the Cabinet, but the CAG did not accept this explanation.
