BMC Elections: Parties Prepare for January 15 Polls
The upcoming municipal elections in Maharashtra, including the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) polls, are scheduled for January 15, 2024, with vote counting on January 16.
The BJP and NCP will contest the Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad municipal elections separately to prevent a third party from benefiting.
The BJP and Shiv Sena will contest most seats together as part of the Mahayuti alliance.
Congress president Varsha Gaikwad stated that the Congress will focus on civic issues and not a religious agenda.
The BMC has over 1 crore voters, with 227 seats up for grabs.
The elections are expected to be highly competitive, with the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance and the Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi vying for control.
The BMC has been under administrator rule since 2022, and the elections will determine the civic body's leadership for the next five years.
