SC Adjourns Hearing on Wangchuk Detention Plea
The Supreme Court has postponed the hearing of a case until January 29, 2026.
This case is about the detention of a climate activist named Sonam Wangchuk.
His wife, Gitanjali J Angmo, has filed a plea saying that his detention is not fair and that the authorities did not follow the correct procedures.
The court wants to hear more from the government and the Ladakh administration before making a decision.
The activist's wife argues that her husband's speech was meant to stop violence, not cause it, and that the authorities are misrepresenting his actions.
The Supreme Court adjourned the hearing of Gitanjali J Angmo's plea against her husband Sonam Wangchuk's detention under the National Security Act.
The next hearing is scheduled for January 29, 2026.
Angmo argues that the detention is illegal and arbitrary, violating her husband's fundamental rights.
The court previously adjourned the matter on November 24, 2025, to allow the Centre and Ladakh administration to respond.
Angmo claims that Wangchuk was not provided with complete grounds for his detention or given a proper opportunity to defend himself.
