Chinese Firm Invests in Tata EV Battery Arm, Joining Board
A Chinese-owned company that makes EV batteries, AESC, has invested in Tata's battery business, Agratas.
AESC bought a piece of Agratas and put one of their top lawyers on the board.
This is a big deal because it shows how important batteries are for the future of cars.
Agratas is also building big factories in the UK and India to make lots of batteries for Tata's car companies like Jaguar and Land Rover.
This investment gives Agratas access to AESC's expertise, especially important because of restrictions on rare earth materials.
AESC is one of the top battery producers, with factories all over the world.
AESC Group, a Chinese-owned EV battery maker, invested in Tata Group's EV battery arm, Agratas.
AESC acquired a 12% stake in Agratas for ₹66 crore in March 2025, with Tata Sons holding 88%.
Gordon Louis Chin, general counsel of AESC Group, joined Agratas's board of directors.
AESC has gigafactories globally, including in China, the US, and the UK.
Agratas is building battery capacity in the UK and India to primarily serve Tata Group's auto firms.
