High Court Seeks Police Report on Baruipur Encounter
A girl was found dead in Baruipur, and a man named Prabhas Mondal was arrested for her rape and murder.
The police took him to the place where the body was found to see if he could help them.
While there, he allegedly grabbed a police gun and fired.
The police shot him back, and he died.
A court is asking the police to explain what happened, because a lawyer says the police did not keep him safe and that the story might be false.
The next court meeting will be on August 18, 2024.
The police are also being watched by a special investigation team.
Everyone wants to know the truth about what happened that night.
Calcutta High Court division bench ordered police to submit a detailed report on the encounter that killed accused Prabhas Mondal.
The encounter happened after Mondal was taken to the crime scene for reconstruction on the night of July 7/early July 8, 2024.
Police say Mondal snatched a revolver from officer Rony Sarkar, fired, and was shot back, sustaining two bullet wounds before dying.
Petitioner Shiladitya Rakshit, through a PIL, argues the police failed to provide adequate security and that the encounter was fabricated.
The next court hearing is scheduled for August 18, 2024, with the investigation overseen by the CID.
