Parties Intensify Preparations for Andhra Pradesh Local Body Polls
Political parties in Nellore are getting ready for local elections.
The government is expected to announce the election schedule on October 12.
The first round may include Nellore city and several nearby municipalities.
TDP must decide which candidates to choose, and a court ruling about reservations has made that harder.
Its partners, BJP and Jana Sena, have been offered some seats, but reportedly want more in Nellore.
Some corporators who were elected for YSRCP and later joined TDP also want to run for TDP.
TDP has put two leaders in charge of different groups of Nellore seats.
Both TDP and YSRCP say the elections are important and are trying to win support.
The State government is expected to issue an election notification on October 12.
The first phase is likely to include Nellore Municipal Corporation and four other district municipalities.
A Supreme Court verdict against the State’s 34% Backward Classes reservation has complicated TDP’s candidate selection.
TDP has offered alliance partners 3% of local-body seats to BJP and 7% to Jana Sena, but both reportedly seek larger shares in Nellore.
Former YSRCP corporators who joined TDP are seeking tickets, while TDP and YSRCP are working to maximise their gains.
