Nuapada Bypoll Sees Record 83.45% Voter Turnout
People in Nuapada, Odisha, voted a lot in a special election called a by-poll, with more than 83 out of every 100 people casting their ballot.
This is a lot more than usual!
Even in areas that are usually difficult to reach or considered unsafe, people voted in large numbers thanks to strong security.
The election officials are happy because this shows people believe in the fairness of voting.
Some people think more women voted because a woman was running for office, while others believe it was because the election happened at a time when most people were home.
The votes are now counted, and we will know the winner soon.
This election happened because the previous leader passed away.
The Nuapada Assembly constituency by-poll recorded a historic voter turnout of 83.45%.
This turnout was 8.01% higher than the previous General and Assembly elections held on May 13, 2024.
High voter participation was noted even in Maoist-affected areas within the Sunabeda Wildlife Sanctuary due to tight security measures, including airlifted officials and CAPF presence.
Two presiding officers were suspended for violating vote secrecy.
The by-election was necessitated by the death of the sitting BJD MLA, Rajendra Dholakia.
