Sensex, Nifty Fall as Bank Nifty Slumps
The Indian stock markets, Sensex and Nifty, ended the day lower on Monday.
This happened because some big parts of the market, like banks and car companies, didn't do well.
Some banks showed mixed results for the first three months of the year, which made investors worried.
One bank, Axis Bank, did especially poorly.
On the other hand, some other parts of the market, like media and medicine, did a little better.
Meanwhile, other markets in Asia were also mixed because people are worried about fights in the Middle East and how expensive some tech stocks have become.
Sensex and Nifty 50 closed lower on Monday due to weak performances in IT, banking, and auto sectors.
Nifty 50 settled at 24,238.50, down 0.39%, while Sensex ended at 77,708.52, down 0.57%.
Bank Nifty fell around 1.6% after mixed Q1 earnings from private sector banks.
Axis Bank was the worst performer, down 5.37%, due to factors like lower Net Interest Margin and slower retail loan growth.
Defensive sectors like Media, Pharma, and FMCG managed to trade in green, offering some cushion to the broader fall.
