Goa's Chovoth Begins With Vibrant, Eco-Friendly Ganesh Celebrations

Chovoth is a festival celebrated in Goa to welcome Lord Ganesha.

Families came home from different parts of India to celebrate together.

They cleaned and decorated their houses with fruits, vegetables and flowers.

Villages also made special eco-friendly structures called matoli.

People pray, sing, perform aarti and join community activities.

The celebrations can last for different numbers of days.

At the end, many families immerse the idols in rivers, lakes or the sea.

Goa’s chief minister asked people to protect nature and support local makers and sellers.
