Fresh Arson and Petrol Bomb Attacks Intensify Meghalaya Assam Tensions

Several attacks happened in Meghalaya after violence at a students’ bike rally.

People threw petrol bombs at a police outpost and several government offices.

Fires also destroyed or damaged government vehicles and a motorcycle.

No one was reported injured in these newer attacks.

Earlier violence damaged at least 31 vehicles and led to assaults on people.

Transport workers in Assam then stopped some vehicles registered in Meghalaya.

This left many passengers stranded, although ambulances and essential-service vehicles could pass.

The governments of Meghalaya and Assam said they would work together to calm the situation.

Central security forces were sent to help police prevent more violence.
