Pezeshkian Says Iran Wants NPT-Based Nuclear Talks, Rejects Allegations

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian says Iran is willing to discuss its nuclear program.

He says those talks must follow the rules of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.

Pezeshkian rejects US and Israeli claims that Iran is secretly pursuing nuclear weapons.

He says international monitors have regularly watched Iran’s nuclear activities.

He also says Iran does not currently trust the United States enough for direct talks.

According to Pezeshkian, an earlier conflict and the reported killing of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei badly damaged trust.

He says Iran wants sanctions lifted and wants the United States to stop attacking it.

He adds that Iran does not want war but will defend itself if attacked.
