Meena Kumari’s Rise From Child Actor to Tragedy Queen

Meena Kumari’s Rise From Child Actor to Tragedy Queen

Meena Kumari started acting when she was only four years old.

Her family relied on the money she earned, so she spent much of her childhood working instead of going to school.

As an adult, she became a famous Hindi film actress, especially after Baiju Bawra.

She also wrote Urdu poetry and sang.

She married filmmaker Kamal Amrohi in secret, but they later separated.

Meena returned to finish Pakeezah, a film that took many years to make.

It came out in February 1972.

She died later that March, aged 39, after her health worsened.
