Karnataka to cap computer science seats
The government of Karnataka in India wants to limit the number of seats available for computer science and related engineering courses.
Right now, more than 64% of all engineering seats in the state are in these subjects.
The minister in charge of higher education, M C Sudhakar, is worried that too many graduates will not find jobs.
He asked a national education council for permission to control the number of seats, and they allowed it.
This is to help prevent a situation where too many people study these subjects but cannot get jobs.
Karnataka plans to cap seats for computer science and related engineering courses due to high unemployment fears.
64% of engineering seats in Karnataka are currently in computer science and related subjects.
Higher Education Minister M C Sudhakar proposed the cap in the Legislative Council.
The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) granted permission for Karnataka to regulate intake.
