Delhi High Court Initiates Contempt Case Against Tihar Superintendent

The Delhi High Court had ordered that Anwar Hussain should temporarily leave jail on parole.

The order said he could be released for four weeks with certain conditions.

The jail did not release him because officials said they needed to verify where he would stay.

Hussain’s wife was also reportedly told that the jail needed to receive the court order directly.

The judge said the order was digitally signed and could easily be checked.

The court believed the jail added requirements that were not in the order.

It said this kept Hussain in jail despite the court’s instructions.

The judge has now started contempt proceedings against the jail superintendent.

The superintendent must explain himself and appear in court on September 22.
