Trump’s nuclear diplomacy highlights the North Korea-Iran contradiction

The United States says Iran must not build a nuclear weapon.

North Korea already has nuclear weapons.

President Donald Trump called North Korean leader Kim Jong Un a friend and said their relationship can help reduce danger.

This is different from the much tougher pressure placed on Iran.

North Korea left an international nuclear treaty in 2003 and tested nuclear weapons afterward.

The exact size of its arsenal is disputed, with estimates ranging from 57 to 120 warheads.

Trump previously threatened North Korea but later met Kim three times.

Critics worry that countries may think building nuclear weapons is safer than refusing to build them.
