Toyota Dealer Ordered to Refund Booking After Wedding Gift Delay
A man named Akash Deep Kapoor booked a Toyota Fortuner as a wedding gift for his daughter.
He paid Rs 1 lakh for the booking, expecting the car to arrive before his daughter’s wedding in April 2022.
The dealer, Castle Toyota, kept postponing delivery and even asked for extra money.
Because the car never arrived in time, the Jalandhar consumer commission said the dealer had failed to deliver as promised.
They ordered the dealer to return the Rs 1 lakh with interest, give Rs 20,000 in compensation, and pay Rs 10,000 for legal costs.
This case shows that if a car is booked for a special occasion and isn’t delivered on time, the buyer can get a refund and extra money for the trouble.
Commission ordered Castle Toyota to refund Rs 1 lakh booking with 6% interest and pay Rs 20,000 compensation.
Dealer failed to deliver a Toyota Fortuner booked as a wedding gift before the daughter’s April 2022 marriage.
Delay of three months was deemed a deficiency of service, as the purpose of the purchase was defeated.
Dealer argued the buyer was not a consumer, but the commission ruled otherwise.
Consumers can seek refunds, interest, and compensation if a vehicle is not delivered on the promised timeline.
