Ex-Maoist Stronghold Karreguttalu to Become Eco-Tourism Hub

Ex-Maoist Stronghold Karreguttalu to Become Eco-Tourism Hub

A place called Karreguttalu is a forest area in India near the border of two states, Telangana and Chhattisgarh.

For almost fifty years, it was controlled by a group called the Maoists, so regular visitors could not go there.

The police recently helped free the area.

Now a top police officer named C.V. Anand visited the forest to celebrate and talk about its future.

He wants to turn the beautiful forest into a place people can visit for eco-tourism.

The forest has tall trees, deep valleys, streams, and around twelve waterfalls.

The government plans to build better roads and bring electricity and mobile phone service to the area.

They also want to create jobs for the local people who live nearby.

The DGP asked the few remaining Maoists to give up their fight peacefully.

He said the sound of gunfire should be replaced by the sounds of development and free movement.
