Germans Moving to U.S. Declines, While U.S. to Germany Migration Rises
Fewer people from Germany are moving to the United States lately.
In the first nine months of this year, even fewer Germans moved to the U.S. than during a slower time in 2021.
At the same time, more people from the U.S. are moving to Germany.
This is the first time more people have gone from the U.S. to Germany than the other way around since 2021.
Even visiting has gone down, with fewer Americans coming to Germany.
However, the U.S. is still the most popular place for Germans to go outside of Europe.
Germany also warned its citizens that just having a visa doesn't guarantee they can enter the U.S. after some were stopped at the border.
German emigration to the U.S. decreased by 17.8% to approximately 17,100 in the first nine months of 2025.
This marks the lowest level of Germans moving to the U.S. since 2021.
In the same period, immigration from the U.S. to Germany rose by 3.4% to over 19,300.
Tourism declined, with 1.96 million U.S. visitors to Germany from January to August, a 3.2% decrease.
Germany updated its travel advisory for the U.S. in March, highlighting that entry is not guaranteed with a visa or waiver.
