Sangma Says Meghalaya Government Stable Amid BJP-UDP Speculation

Some reports said that several UDP lawmakers in Meghalaya might join the BJP.

This could have changed the balance between the parties in the state government.

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said he had no information beyond the media reports.

He said the government was stable and would react only if a change actually happened.

The UDP called the reports baseless.

It said its meeting with Amit Shah was about the FCRA and other issues affecting Meghalaya.

Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said the NPP alone has enough lawmakers to form the government.

The ruling alliance currently has support from 51 of the 60 lawmakers.
