Jharkhand High Court Slams Govt Over HIV Infections in 5 Children Post-Transfusion
Imagine some kids were sick with a condition called thalassemia, and they needed blood to get better.
But when they got the blood at a hospital in Chaibasa, they accidentally got a sickness called HIV.
The grown-ups in charge of the hospital and the blood didn't check the blood carefully enough.
Because of this, five kids got sick with HIV.
Now, a big court is asking the government why this happened and what they are going to do to make sure it never happens again.
The government has already suspended some people and is investigating.
The court wants to know if the right safety tests are being used for blood.
Jharkhand High Court criticized the state government for failing to follow standard procedures in blood transfusions, resulting in HIV infections in five children.
The affected children, who have thalassemia, received blood transfusions at Sadar Hospital in Chaibasa during August and September.
The court questioned the delay in installing advanced screening machines like Nucleic Acid Test (NAT) and the lack of licensing for blood banks.
Following the incident, the Jharkhand government suspended the West Singhbhum civil surgeon and other officials, initiating a high-level probe.
The opposition BJP has strongly condemned the incident, calling it a "shameful" failure of the government.
