Bengal FDA cracks down on rotten meat before Durga Puja

Food inspectors in Bengal are checking restaurants and food shops before Durga Puja.

They found rotten meat at a restaurant in Baduria.

They also found a large amount of stale chicken and prawns in a Tangra restaurant.

That restaurant was temporarily closed.

Other inspections found expired food, fungus-covered chicken and shops without proper licences.

Officials also found some businesses using questionable colours in food.

One restaurant said the rotten meat was being kept for disposal, but officials still issued a notice.

The government says it will take a strict approach to unsafe or adulterated food.
