India's 2026-27 ITR Filing Deadlines Vary by Taxpayer
In India, people who have to file their income tax returns for the year 2026‑27 have different deadlines depending on what kind of money they earn.
If you only get a salary or rent, you must file by July 31, 2026.
If you also do a business or freelance work but don’t need an audit, you have until August 31, 2026.
If your business needs an audit, you must file by October 31, 2026.
People who have to report special trade‑price deals can file until November 30, 2026.
If you miss the first deadline, you can still file later but you may have to pay extra interest or fees.
You can also file a revised return until March 31, 2027, to correct mistakes.
It’s important to pick the right form and deadline so you don’t get penalties.
31 July 2026 remains due date for individuals and HUFs filing ITR‑1 or ITR‑2 without audit.
31 August 2026 is the deadline for eligible taxpayers filing ITR‑3 or ITR‑4 who are not subject to a tax audit (includes freelancers, consultants, presumptive taxation).
31 October 2026 applies to audit‑required business and professional taxpayers filing ITR‑3.
30 November 2026 is the extended due date for taxpayers required to file transfer‑pricing reports.
Filing after the applicable due date can trigger interest, late fees, loss of loss‑carry‑forward and refund delays.
