KHRC Orders Replacement of 'Vriddhasadan' with 'Snehalayam'
The Kerala Human Rights Commission has ordered that the term 'Vriddhasadan' (old-age home) be replaced with 'Snehalayam' (house of love) in all official references.
This change is to make sure that senior citizens feel respected and not inferior.
The government had already issued an order for this change, but the old term is still being used widely.
The commission wants the new name to be used on name boards, websites, and all other official communications quickly.
This decision was made after a complaint was filed by Prof Varghese Mathew.
KHRC directed the replacement of 'Vriddhasadan' with 'Snehalayam' in all official references.
The term 'Vriddhasadan' was considered to create a sense of inferiority among senior citizens.
The Social Justice Department was ordered to ensure the new name is reflected in all records and public communication.
The government had already issued an order for this change on December 2, 2024.
The direction came after a complaint filed by Prof Varghese Mathew.
