West Bengal to Include Eggs in Mid‑Day Meals from August
West Bengal’s government said that starting next month, kids in school will get eggs again in their lunch.
The state will work with a group called ISKCON to give vegetarian meals in many schools.
Eggs will be added by local self‑help groups.
The plan is a pilot that will start on August 1.
The government also raised the money it spends on meals for primary‑school kids to the same amount as for older kids.
This move is meant to keep children healthy and give people jobs.
The chief minister said the change will help students get enough protein.
The plan follows a model used in another state, Odisha.
The government wants to keep the meals tasty and nutritious.
West Bengal will add boiled eggs to mid‑day meals starting Aug 1.
ISKCON will run a pilot vegetarian meal program in Kolkata schools.
Eggs will be supplied separately by Self‑Help Groups (SHGs).
The state raised primary‑school meal allocation to ₹10 per child.
The change aims to maintain nutrition while creating SHG livelihoods.
