Court acquits man in 2018 cop shooting case
In 2018, a man named Pradeep Kumar was accused of trying to shoot a police officer in Dwarka, New Delhi.
The police said he was drunk and misbehaved with them, even biting a constable's thumb and pointing a pistol at an officer.
However, the gun did not fire.
The court recently decided that the man should be acquitted because the police did not provide enough evidence to prove he was guilty.
The judge said that while police witnesses are important, their testimony must be reliable and confident to convict someone.
The court found gaps in the police's evidence and decided to let the man go.
A Delhi court acquitted Pradeep Kumar of attempting to shoot a police officer in 2018.
The incident occurred on October 31, 2018, in Dwarka, where Kumar allegedly misbehaved with police while drunk.
Kumar was charged with attempted murder, assault, obstructing public servants, and illegal use of arms.
The court found gaps in the prosecution's evidence and acquitted Kumar due to lack of proof beyond reasonable doubt.
The judgment was delivered by Additional Sessions Judge Vandana Jain on January 15, 2024.
