Taiwan Demonstrates F-16 Rapid Response Amid China Tensions
Taiwan showed how quickly it can prepare its F-16 fighter jets for combat.
They loaded missiles and refueled the jets very fast.
This was to show that they are ready for any attacks.
China often sends planes near Taiwan, which Taiwan sees as a way to bother them.
The drill was also to let the public see how well the air force can handle real combat situations.
President Lai said the military needs to be more practical and use new technology to be strong and modern.
Taiwan's air force demonstrated rapid replenishment and combat-oriented training of F-16V fighter jets at Chiayi Air Base.
The drill involved loading U.S.-made AIM-9M Sidewinder and AIM-120 AMRAAM missiles onto the jets for quick redeployment.
Taiwan routinely scrambles its air force to monitor and warn off Chinese aircraft, viewing these incursions as harassment.
President Lai Ching-te emphasized the need for practical, flexible, and combat-ready military training using advanced technology.
The drill was the first to be held in front of the media since China's latest round of war games around Taiwan in late December.
