India's Solar Potential Exceeds 3,300 GW, New Report Says
India has a lot of sunshine, which means it has a lot of potential to generate solar power!
A new study shows India could produce over 3,300 GW of solar power.
The study used special data to find good locations for solar farms, mainly on unused land.
Western India, including Rajasthan, Maharashtra, and Gujarat, has the most potential.
The government plans to use this information to build more solar power plants and reach its renewable energy goals.
The report considered how much sun shines, the type of land, and how efficiently solar panels work.
India's ground-mounted solar PV potential is estimated at 3,343.37 GW.
The study used satellite imagery, weather data, and land use information.
Rajasthan has the highest solar potential, at 828.78 GWp.
The report identified 27,571.39 km² of feasible wasteland for solar deployment.
The assessment considered module wattage, efficiency, and shadow analysis.
