Untainted Teachers Allowed to Work Till August 31
The Supreme Court of India has allowed teachers in West Bengal, who were not involved in a jobs scam, to continue working until August 31, 2025.
This decision comes after the court found problems in a 2016 test for teachers and canceled the results.
The court has also asked the West Bengal School Service Commission to hire new teachers by December 31, 2024.
The education minister and board secretary are happy with this decision because it helps students and schools.
The new hiring process started in May 2024, and results for some classes will be out by January 7, 2025.
Untainted teachers (15,403) can continue working till August 31, 2025, as per the Supreme Court's directive.
The Supreme Court scrapped the 2016 state-level selection test (SLST) panel due to large-scale irregularities, affecting 25,753 staff.
Fresh recruitment must be completed by December 31, 2024, with results for Classes 11 and 12 expected by January 7, 2025.
Education Minister Bratya Basu and Board Secretary Subrata Ghosh welcomed the court's decision, citing its benefit to students and the school system.
The recruitment process for Classes 9 and 10 is expected to be completed by March 2025, followed by counseling and other procedures.
