Sensex, Nifty End Lower After Sharp Intraday Losses
India’s two main stock-market indexes ended slightly lower on Friday.
The Sensex and Nifty had fallen much more earlier in the day.
Investors bought shares of HDFC Bank and technology companies, which helped the market recover.
The price of Brent crude oil also went down.
However, oil was still near USD 104 per barrel.
Experts said high oil prices, foreign selling and uncertainty could keep markets unstable.
Asian markets mostly fell, while European markets were higher.
The weekly losses were larger than the losses on Friday alone.
The Sensex fell 120.83 points, or 0.16%, to close at 74,781.76.
The Nifty declined 79.70 points, or 0.34%, to finish at 23,398.10.
The Sensex dropped 742.43 points and the Nifty 246.4 points during intraday trading.
Buying in HDFC Bank and information technology shares helped the indices recover from their lows.
Brent crude fell 3.19% to USD 104.20 per barrel, while foreign investors sold Rs 438.24 crore of equities on Thursday.
