MGNREGA Renamed, Benefits Expanded for Rural Workers
The Indian government has changed the name of the MGNREGA scheme to Pujya Bapu Gramin Rozgar Yojana.
They also made it better by increasing the number of guaranteed work days from 100 to 125 each year.
The daily wage has been raised to Rs 240.
This scheme helps people in villages find work and earn money.
It was started in 2005 and helps with things like building roads, digging ponds, and other important tasks.
The changes are meant to help rural families earn more money and make their communities stronger.
However, the average days of employment provided per household was just about 50 days in 2024-25, and only 6.74 lakh families have hit the 100-day ceiling in the current financial year.
The government allows additional 50 days of wage employment for specific cases, such as Scheduled Tribe households in forest areas or areas affected by drought or natural calamities.
MGNREGA has been renamed to Pujya Bapu Gramin Rozgar Yojana.
Guaranteed employment days increased from 100 to 125 per year.
Minimum daily wage revised to Rs 240.
Scheme aims to enhance livelihood security for unskilled rural households.
Typical projects include rural infrastructure and water conservation.
