Punjab & Haryana HC: Village Common Land Belongs to Proprietors, Not Municipal Body
After 28 years, a court in India decided that land in a village belongs to the village owners, not the local government.
The local government can manage the land but can't own it.
A previous order giving some land to individuals was canceled because the court was already dealing with the case.
28-year-old case decided by Punjab & Haryana High Court
Land recorded as 'Jumla Mushtarka Malkan Hasab Rasad Khewat' belongs to village proprietors
Municipal committee has management rights, not ownership
