Indian Mother’s US Visitor Visa Denial Sparks Online Debate
An Indian woman wanted her mother to visit the United States for a housewarming celebration.
Her mother applied for a visitor visa.
She said she had savings and investments to pay for a month-long trip.
She also said she would stay at her daughter’s home.
At the interview in Mumbai, an officer asked about the trip and her life in India.
The visa was denied within about five minutes, according to the daughter’s post.
The daughter said the officer did not ask to see documents.
People online disagreed about what may have affected the decision.
Some said the officer may have wanted stronger signs that the mother would return to India.
An Indian woman said her mother’s B1/B2 visitor visa was denied after an interview at the US consulate in Mumbai.
The mother planned to visit for a month to attend her daughter’s housewarming ceremony.
She said she could pay for the trip using savings and investments and would stay at her daughter’s home.
The applicant said the officer asked about the trip, its funding, travel history and whether she feared returning to India, but requested no documents.
Reddit users offered differing advice, with some pointing to ties to India and others debating whether the trip should be described as self-funded or sponsored.
