Trump vows forceful response after Iran strikes US bases
The United States and Iran exchanged attacks after about a month without direct fighting.
US forces struck two Iranian launchers on Larak Island.
American officials said the launchers threatened shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran then fired missiles toward US bases in Jordan.
Trump said the United States would respond strongly.
He said American defenses stopped the missiles that could have caused damage.
Iran warned that another attack would bring a harsh response.
Iran’s president said his country still wanted a negotiated solution.
Other reported attacks were denied or could not be confirmed.
Iran launched at least eight ballistic missiles toward two US bases in Jordan after a US strike on Iranian launchers on Larak Island.
Trump said the United States would “hit them hard,” while claiming US defenses intercepted missiles that could have caused damage.
US Central Command described the Larak operation as limited and precise, citing an imminent threat from suspected Iranian minelaying forces.
Iranian officials warned of a harsh response to further attacks, while President Masoud Pezeshkian said Tehran still favored negotiations.
Reports of an Iranian strike on a UAE air base and a tanker damaged by naval mines were disputed or denied, while Trump’s Kharg Island videos were identified as AI-generated.

United States Position
Iranian Position
Justification for military action
United States Position
The United States said it conducted a limited, precise strike because Iranian Revolutionary Guard forces were preparing to launch rockets and sea mines into the Strait of Hormuz, posing an imminent threat to shipping.
Iranian Position
Iran treated the US strike as an attack and responded with missiles toward US bases. An Iranian source described the confrontation as limited but warned of a harsh response to further attacks.
Sanctions and negotiations

Trump and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said sanctions were severely damaging Iran’s economy and suggested Iran was responding militarily because of that pressure. Trump said Iran wanted talks but questioned whether a deal could be trusted.
Iranian Position
President Masoud Pezeshkian said Iran still sought an agreement and believed continuing the war was in no one’s interest, even as another Iranian source warned that passage conditions in the Strait of Hormuz could worsen.
Claims about additional attacks
United States Position
The US military denied that a supertanker was struck by naval mines. A US official also said Kharg Island was not targeted, and the videos Trump posted showing explosions there were identified as AI-generated.
Iranian Position
Iranian state media reported that a supertanker had been hit by two naval mines, while Iran’s army said it struck Al Minhad air base in the United Arab Emirates. The UAE called the air-base report false, although it said its forces engaged a drone from Iran over its territorial waters.
